The Granheim Foundation’s Matteson Institute of World Mission is dedicated to hastening the Lord’s return. Its training program educates, equips, and empowers the students with a vision to work with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in fulfilling its mission.
Since it was established in 1986, Matteson has remained convicted that God can do much through simple means. This makes it possible to run the school on limited funds, with the students’ help. They take part in cooking, cleaning, maintaining the property, gardening, and planning events, and thereby also enhance their practical and leadership skills. The balanced program focuses on four key areas: Bible, evangelism, organic gardening, and health.
The students’ education also involves literature evangelism, Bible studies, church planting, and health expos. For students who desire to pursue mission aviation, Matteson offers, in its second year, flight training using a local pilot’s four-seater airplane. The school also operates a variety of projects and industries, such as composting and soil development, a greenhouse, and a home bakery.
In 2005 the foundation joined hands with Gospel Ministries International, which made it possible to offer training in a global outreach program. The students participate in a three-month mission internship in various areas, such as media ministry, medical aviation, education, orphan care, and evangelism.
The school’s staff members face a number of challenges as it continues to grow, but they trust that God will see them through! By His grace this project will continue to develop into a shining light for its surroundings and a place where Jesus’ character will be seen.
