While working in ministry, Louis and Carol Torres saw a real need for trained gospel workers. They envisioned a school where individuals could be trained for evangelism in “only a few months” (3T 160).
In 1980 Carol wrote the curriculum for an evangelism training school designed to train students in the science of soul-winning. In 1995 their vision began to take form when the couple opened Mission College of Evangelism on the campus of Black Hills Health & Education Center in South Dakota. The Lord greatly blessed the work, and from the beginning, the results were incredible.
The students’ evangelistic outreach led to a church plant and hundreds of baptisms into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In time, Mission College outgrew the Black Hills area. In 2002 the school accepted the invitation to move to the Portland, Oregon, area, which offers more opportunities for student training. Since the first class in 1995, Mission College has trained more than 800 individuals for the Lord’s service. Many are working in full-time ministry, and by God’s grace, they are winning many souls for the Kingdom.
Louis and Carol continue to be in awe of how the Lord is leading the Mission College of Evangelism. From its humble beginnings as a concept in the minds of two gospel workers to its present status as a training institute with affiliate schools across the globe, God is working powerfully through the team at the college. His message will ever be their mission.
