School by the Sea is a Seventh-day Adventist institution that has been called to teach not only foreign languages, but also a way of living.
Through teaching, staff are granted access to the mind, and they use this empowerment to share skills demanded by the modern world, as well as thoughts centered on Christ. Because of their belief that a mind is not free in a degenerated body and that the call to teach does not stop at the classroom, teachers use every available avenue to reach the physical person, as well as the mind and spirit.
School by the Sea was founded in 1996 by three couples working in cooperation with the Seventh-day Adventist Polish Conference. They currently have 20 teachers and more than 200 students and offer courses in English, German, Italian, French, and Spanish. The student body is diverse and includes children, teenagers, and adults. Groups consist of eight to 12 students who meet twice a week for 90 minute classes.
People in Poland often struggle with problems like depression, and they don’t know how to live a successful life. They come to the school trying to change their situation by learning a language, but what they really want is a better life. Knowing a foreign language is a wonderful thing and the staff want to lead them through the process of achieving that goal, but above all they desire to give students spiritual and mental support.
Their greatest need is dedicated Adventist volunteers and teachers. They are looking for enthusiastic, loving, warm people who are willing to spend at least a school year serving people. The work is hard, but it pays off quickly with immeasurable satisfaction.
School by the Sea must be an apple in the Father’s eye. While there is a serious spiritual crisis in Poland, and people are turning away from the church and its institutions, God is giving School by the Sea an opportunity to work where numerous people come and appreciate what they do.
