OCI Leadership Retreat 2011
Preparing for the OCI Leadership Retreat at Herghelia Institute was similar to planning a wedding. There were a lot of important details to take care of. We had several faithful teams working on preparing the tents, media, visas, transportation, housing, and food services. Organizing a wedding is exciting. The anticipation builds as the event draws closer, but so does the fatigue. However, the biggest object of our excitement wasn’t the event itself; it was the OCI leaders, workers, and young prospective leaders in attendance—a special part of God’s army gathering together for a week of fellowship.
On Sabbath afternoon I regretfully realized that the retreat was coming to an end. All of these special people were leaving Herghelia, and we felt an emptiness similar to when the bride and bridegroom depart after a wedding.
The OCI retreat is over, but we must now prepare for a heavenly retreat. While the location is important, our greatest motivation should be the promise of meeting with Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. As our excitement builds, so does our exhaustion. There are many important preparations that can also become distractions. It is only through God’s grace that we can attend the great Eternal Retreat. Jesus has already paid the registration fee and the retreat expenses, and unlike our OCI retreat, the bride and Bridegroom will never have to part again. I hope to see you all there!
